Mythos in the Media

Mythos made an appearance on some media spots this last week or so. There’s a familiar face a few might recognize, and for those who have never seen my face you will in the Wandering Goblin Interview I did at GDC. Max Schaefer was interrogated by Computer & Video Games, there’s a teaser up on their website. MythosGuru.com took a stab at our very own John Dunbar, some really good questions were answered, check it out below.

Last but certainly not least, our friends at Eurogamer got their hands on their very own shiny Exclusive Video. Check out all of these at the links below, and have a safe and excellent weekend!

Mythos at GDC

Today instead of doing my Play Diary I was at GDC (Game Developers Conference) setting up our Mythos stuff. Was definitely new to me being on the floor as someone showing off a game instead of going to look at games and new technologies as a fan. Scapes (Hellgate Community Manager) and I met up at the Muni station, and set out for GDC. When we got there we got our badges and tried to enter the Expo to setup. Apparently, we didn't have the right kind of passes, so we had to wait for our friends at Nvidia to usher us in. Pete from Nvidia got there around noon and let us in to the Expo and showed us the Nvidia booth, but there was a problem... we didn't have a PC for Mythos! Before anyone freaked out Pete had the answers (that guy was good), the PC was en route to GDC and just hadn't beat us there.

The entire time there we met some cool people just in the Nvidia setup alone. Ivar from Funcom (Age of Conan) was installing their game on a PC near ours, there was Call of Duty 4 setup on a Tri-SLI machine (so sexy), and something that I had never experienced but only heard about... 3D glasses (not the ones with screens in them) and games that work with them to create an amazing immersion in their games. Call of Duty 4 was first up, and due to the way the keyboard and mouse were just sitting on a chair it was a little difficult (things were still being setup). I switched over to Need for Speed Pro Street and wow, it was great. The track looked pretty much the same, but the cars and the debris all felt 3D. It was definitely something I would like to try if I had a nice large monitor to play it on. All in all, it was a blast, we got Mythos up and running and looking sweet on the Nvidia machines and then we headed back to the office for some less fun but still much needed desk work :) I'll be back Friday with another update!

From the inside -> out!

Today's post takes place not in the Uld you know, but the Uld we have here at work, all shiny and bug happy hehehe. That's right, straight from our internal build! So I decided to just speed a character to 30 and jump right into Zone 3. MickDundee makes a new appearance as the Piercing Barrage Gadgeteer of DOOM!
*Queues Doom Song from Invader Zim*

I set off for our Frozen Heath area and was having a blast. I had never got a gadgeteer to this level before, and I must say it is some of the most fun I have had in Mythos (so far). Enemies dropping left and right I decided I needed more of a challenge. I turned MickDundee into an Elite character and set off again. This time there were more monsters than I knew what to do with, thankfully my bullets ricochet and pierce and do all sorts of lovely acrobatic tricks to kill anything in their way.

Since I wanted to explore more of Zone 3 again (as I had only cheated to see it for screenshots and various releases) I decided the Ice Caves were probably the best next choice. Fortunately, I was on my way to a dungeon that was an Ice Cave, so I kept on trucking.

I shook off the snow and put on my ear muffs, it was cold! The foggy Ice Caves were definitely a good feel and I wanted to go deeper. Almost immediately I was smacked in the face by a HUGE Yeti. If that wasn't enough, some little bugger ice elementals were laying siege to my mid section. I thought I was going to die, fortunately for me I had a nice unlimited supply of health potions ^_^ Score one for dev hacks! The tour was ended rather hastily because of some more important work that needed to be done, so I Anchorstoned back to Mistglade and called it a day. Check out some of the screenshots below, keep in mind I have the UI set to the smallest scale and I use a resolution of 1680x1050 (edited images to fit in your browser).

Tip of the Week - #1

Kicking it off each Monday (I know today is Wednesday, but it will be mondays from now on); I'll be doing a tip each week for new players, old players, skilled players, and the all around average user.

Tip #1:
When traveling alone, always make sure to have an ample supply of recall charms. You never know when you will be 6 floors deep in a Snarling Den and you just want to sell some stuff to make room for the sweet loot that keeps dropping!

MickDundee dies at age 8 :(

Well, due to some unfortunately circumstances... MickDundee (my level 8 HCE Gadgeteer) has officially died. I think from now on I shouldn't play HCE when I'm busy working hehehe. Was on my way to kill Rufus, zoned in and had to alt tab to talk in IM, came back... dead. I think I'll roll the same character again, Piercing Barrage is heaps of fun! So, if you're up to the challenge, Tuesday morning (11am-ish PST) I'll be starting up again and any HCE is welcome. It's first come first serve. You will see my party in the party finder "Taylor Balbi's HCE Only!". See you there!

C&VG, OnlineWelten, and more!

CV&G.com (UK) has posted their preview of Mythos from our Europe Press Tour that Max and Travis went on. OnlineWelten (Germany) also got in on the action and have posted their thoughts. As for CV&G.com, quite possibly my favorite Quote about Mythos to date:
"It's free, it's a real treat and anyone overlooking it when it's released should have "TWIT" scratched onto their foreheads with a rusty compass".
